## Protecting the skin under the fold

The skin under an apron belly is prone to intertrigo, a rash driven by “warm temperatures, friction, moisture, maceration, and poor ventilation”. Tight synthetic shapewear adds heat, so pair it with a breathable layer, and don’t wear compression over broken skin.

- Choose a cotton or cotton-lined gusset where possible (the Honeylove and Shapellx bodysuit have one).
- One user’s tip: wear cotton underwear under elastic shapewear, because shapewear fabric is “very not breathable”.
- Dry the fold fully before dressing. Absorbent powders and loose clothing are standard prevention advice.
- See a doctor for a rash that smells, weeps, bleeds or doesn’t settle within a few days.

- **Yummie Seamless Solutions High Waist Brief** ($38): rises to just below the bra line, but the largest size is 1X/2X and the plus sizes of its sister thigh shaper were sold out on 14 Sep 2026.
- **Marena LGS High-Waist Girdle** ($147): a post-surgery compression garment, not everyday shapewear, and opened garments can’t be returned. It belongs with post-op compression garments.
- **Squeem Sheer Allure**: every size sold out, and it only goes to 2X.
- **Maidenform Flexees bodysuits**: praised by one Reddit user with an “extreme apron belly”, but the brand’s pages blocked our checks, so we couldn’t verify sizes or price. We’ll re-check.

**Should shapewear go over or under an apron belly? +**

Over it. A waistband that sits under the fold rolls down and cuts in. Pick a high-rise or full-torso garment whose top edge clears the fold, or a bodysuit that has no waistband at all.

**Can shapewear get rid of an apron belly? +**

No. Shapewear smooths and holds the fold while you wear it. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says excess skin folds are “virtually impossible to correct by diet, weight loss, or exercise”, and surgery is the only way to remove the skin itself.
